Worked example
Six formulas over the same three inputs — words per sentence, syllables per word, letters per word. All six are shown because they disagree.
A sample paragraph scored by all six formulas. They disagree, which is the point — a single score presented alone implies a precision these formulas do not have.
Content marketing is the practice of publishing material that answers a question your customers already have. It works because the reader arrives looking for the answer rather than for you. The difficulty is that useful writing takes longer than promotional writing, and the results arrive later. Most teams abandon the effort in the third month, shortly before it would have started to compound.

Why it matters
A single readability score implies a precision these formulas do not have. They were fitted to English prose decades ago, they disagree with each other by two or three grade levels on the same paragraph, and none of them can tell whether your writing is any good. What they do reliably detect is long sentences and long words, which is why the longest sentences are listed alongside the scores — that is the part you can actually act on.
